Yeti’s Newest Product Is Cheap, Versatile and Long Overdue

The brand’s Rambler bottles have long served as makeshift food storage in the wild. Now a new offering is optimized for the task.

Yeti has never been a culinary company, strictly speaking. Then again, its bulletproof coolers can do more much more than keep a case of beer cold.

Pitmasters the world over use them as resting chambers for smoked meat, while fisherman depend on them to safely transport fish from sea to land.

More recently, the brand has doubled down on its culinary chops, releasing its own cast-iron-cookware collection and even insulated bowls for hosting and entertaining.

A new lineup of leakproof food jars expands upon this premise even further. And, according to Hannah Mara, the head of food and drink at the brand, its been a long time coming.

Rambler bottles can keep food hot or cold, but the new Insulated Food Jars are specifically optimized for the task.

“Our fans have been asking for an insulated, fully leakproof food storage solution they could take on the go for years,” Mara says.

To date, Yeti Nation has had to rely on the brand’s extensive lineup of Rambler bottles and cups, such as the 10-ounce Lowball that has become a popular alternative to a traditional food jar.

However, designing something explicitly for the purpose of, say, keeping soup hot or pico de gallo cold gave Yeti carte blanche to double down on what works with the Lowball but tailor it to the culinary world.

That started with the lid, which couldn’t just be leakproof and strong but intuitive and easy to use.

The solution was something called MagVent, a two-piece lid, connected by magnets, that combats pressure buildup while remaining easy to take off and clean — a surprisingly “common point of frustration with other options on the market,” Mara says.

“Our two-piece construction lid seamlessly comes apart with no small, easy-to-lose pieces and creates a much simpler cleaning experience without the need for special tools,” she adds.

The Insulated Food Jars also come with a hidden feature, measurement marks stamped on the inside (a first for Yeti), and differ in size to the typical Rambler vessels. At launch, they’re available in 8- and 16-ounce capacities. (The Lowball, by contrast, is 10 ounces.)

Ultimately, the containers are optimized for the task of keeping food hot or cold. That said, Mara expects users to find new uses for them in the outdoors — such as dry-good protection in harsh environments.

After all, sometimes by building the best damn unitasker on the market — like a rugged ice chest — you land on a wide range of solutions.
