Yeti Just Quietly Released One of Its Most Useful Products Yet

Yeti’s new food storage line can be used daily at home, but it’s also explicitly designed to play nicely with other Yeti coolers and ice packs when the time comes to hit the road.

I’m no subject matter expert on food storage, but I’ve got to believe that 2024 will go down as one of the most momentous years in the product category’s history.

On one hand, you have the death of the industry’s category-defining brand—Tupperware, which officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September.

On the other hand, Yeti, initially known for making elite coolers of all shapes and sizes, has now also entered the market.

Yeti’s Kept Its Food Storage Launch Low-Key

The launch of the Yeti Food Storage line was relatively quiet by the brand’s standards. Instead of sending out press releases, posts were shared announcing the new collection on social media platforms like Instagram.

The new Food Storage line appears to be the finishing touch to a very ambitious year of product line expansion for the Austin, Texas-based company. It joins the brand’s first-ever French Press and flask, its first collection of cast-iron skillets, and its most affordable hard cooler yet.

To Yeti’s credit, the brand isn’t overplaying the importance of launching its take on Tupperware. The new food storage collection was revealed quietly by the brand’s standards.

For example, we didn’t receive any proactive outreach from the brand about the launch, and it doesn’t appear many other media outlets did either. Instead, the company opted to reveal the line via various social media feed posts late last week.

The New Line Offers Everything You’d Expect From a Food Storage Container

Yeti’s food storage containers are made of heavy plastic and come in three sizes. Like any good food storage containers, they’re designed to be 100% leakproof and airtight.

The current Yeti Food Storage lineup is offered in small (1.1 cups), medium (3 cups), and large (8.5 cups) sizes. Yeti states that the containers are 100% leakproof, airtight, microwave and freezer safe, and made from BPA-free, 50% recycled plastic.

The choice of plastic over glass may disappoint the growing segment of consumers worried about the proliferation of micro and nano plastics entering our bodies, but given that Yeti expects the containers to be used outside of the house and on the road, avoiding the risk of potential broken glass shards seems like a prudent design choice.

Early buyers have shared on Reddit that they feel a bit like glass in weight, noting that they’re heavier than most plastic containers. They also share that the plastic passes the crucial spaghetti storage staining test, at least after a few early rounds of use.

But the Killer Feature Key Is How Nicely They Work With Other Yeti Gear

Like essentially everything Yeti makes, the food storage containers cost significantly more than their generic counterparts. But anyone willing to splurge on them will gain some notable benefits if they’re already invested in the wider Yeti ecosystem.

For example, each of the three food storage container sizes can stack and nestle on top of a matching-size Yeti Thin Ice cooler pack.

The curved corners of the containers also perfectly mirror a variety of Yeti coolers, including the Lunch Box, Hopper Flip, 12 and 18 Soft Coolers, Hopper M20 Backpack Cooler, Hopper M30 Soft Cooler Cooler, and the Roadie 24 Hard Cooler.

This means they take up less room compared to generic storage containers and will also sit more snugly. The larger storage container also appears to rest naturally on the internal ridge of select hard coolers.

Of course, they’ll also store your leftovers perfectly fine in a fridge at home, which could quickly put the food storage containers in the running for the most-used products by dedicated Yeti fans.
