Yeti has a track record of proudly overthinking items other brands take for granted. But even it knows that different adventures call for different types of gear.

In other words, quick trips to the beach — or your neighbors backyard — don’t require the same thermal performance as a multi-day excursion off the grid, even if they are convenient opportunities to show off some sweet gear.

On that note, the brand has decided to expand its Daytrip series of lunch boxes, adding a large insulated tote bag to replace its $300 Hopper M15 Soft Cooler.

The best part? It doesn’t cost $300 — not even close. The Daytrip 14L Tote Bag clocks for less than half that sticker price, while still offering users a day’s worth of cooling prowess, alongside some other respectable functionality.

Keep it cool

Similar to the Hopper, the Daytrip counts on Yeti’s closed-cell foam — called Coldcell — for thermal regulation, as well as the HitchPoint Grid to attach to a secondary dry bag or the Molle Bottle Opener.

That said, the bag also features two external stash pockets on either side for users who prefer to keep secondary attachments to a minimum.

As for size, the 14L Tote Bag measures about 11 by 8 inches, with a 13.6-inch height, meaning it is indeed smaller than the bag it’s designed to replaced.

The 13.6-inch height means it can fit up to three standard wine bottles, standing upright.

However, it can fit up to 20 standard cans (compared to 32 with the M15) and it can even accommodate up to three bottles of wine, stashed upright.

Small and easy to carry doesn’t mean a lack of storage. The Daytrip 14L Tote Bag can fit Yet’s large ice pack and then some.

If that still sounds like too much cargo for your next microadventure, Yeti offers a 6L variant (with a capacity of nine standard cans), as well as two sizes of its traditional lunch box: 3L and 5L.

All four are options are now available to purchase on Yeti’s official website, with prices starting at $65.
