Despite all their obvious similarities, outdoor cutting tools and EDC knives donโ€™t have as much technological overlap as you might think. While pocket knives have largely evolved around convenience and style, outdoor tools remain more about simplicity and ruggedness.

Swedish up-and-comer brand Woxna looks to change that with its groundbreaking folding saws that borrow heavily from some surprising corners of the EDC world.

Everyday carry attributes

It needs to be said that the concept of packable saws isnโ€™t exactly uncharted territory. Designs date back to at least the late 1800s, and many are readily available at outdoor retailers like REI. That said, there are a few things that Woxna is doing that outpaces just about all the others Iโ€™ve seen.

For starters, all four of their offerings are gorgeous in their designs. Theyโ€™re also well-balanced and fold in on themselves just like EDC knives, helping make them exceptionally packable and easy to use, too.

But perhaps the most interesting thing, functionally speaking, is that they feature a button lock โ€” a trend taking over the everyday carry world. With the blade extended, it operates the same as button locks in EDC knives: depress the button, and the blade can be folded.

But it has secondary functionality thatโ€™s less common. When the saw blade is closed, the lock keeps the blade from accidentally opening. It adds safety and security thatโ€™s quite welcome in such a toothsome cutting tool.

A toothy grin

The sawsโ€™ beauty and button locks arenโ€™t the only innovations Woxna is spearheading. The steel is also unusual in the brandโ€™s flagship offering.

Called the Ljusnan โ€” named for a river in Sweden โ€” these saws are built with Sandvik 10C28Mo2 steel, a material most commonly seen in EDC knives.

Unlike other steels typically used in outdoor applications, this stainless steel wonโ€™t rust. As a result, itโ€™s also longer-lasting and easier to maintain.

Pair that with the sawsโ€™ 7 TPI (Teeth Per Inch), three-stage grind, alternating toothed blade, and these tremendous tools can cut through lumber like butter.

If youโ€™re unsure whether theyโ€™re legit or overblown bombast, they also come with a lifetime warranty to back up the lofty claims.
