Introduced 40 years ago, in 1985, The North Face MOUNTAIN JACKET redefined the technical layering system. Not only was it designed as a critical survival shield against earth’s most extreme elements but it also became a timeless piece worth collecting and keeping for a lifetime.
To celebrate four decades since it first launched, The North Face has rolled out the 2025 Mountain Jacket in two weatherproof variants — DRYVENT™ Mono and GTX — both of which raise the bar for mountain and city adventures alike. Here’s what each jacket offers.

DRYVENT™ Mono Mountain Jacket
The jacket that’s as sustainable as it is waterproof
Crafted with a 100 percent recycled 2L DRYVENT™ membrane fabric, the Mono Mountain Jacket is considered a mono-material garment, which means it’s easier to recycle and reduces waste at the end of its life. Its performance remains unmatched: A non-PFC DWR finish adds water repellency, and seam sealing offers full protection against unrelenting weather.

The relaxed fit accommodates layers underneath and movement while in use, and thoughtful design features like the internal draft flap and chin guard boost comfort in wet and cold conditions. Adjustability comes by way of a drawcord at the hem as well as on the three-piece hood. Cuff tabs, zippered pockets, and a zippered front with a snap storm flap keep the weather out.
It will be many, many years before this jacket is ready for retirement, at which point The North Face will take it back for proper recycling.

GTX Mountain Jacket
The jacket that you can take anywhere
Humans require shelter to survive, and the GTX Mountain Jacket is a steadfast fortress in even the most extreme environments. Tested over four decades in the Himalayas and beyond, it’s been engineered to keep warmth in and weather out with a fully seam-sealed construction, GORE-TEX® waterproofing, a center front placket and storm flap, and zippered alpine-style pockets.

Drawcords at the hem, cuffs, and hood allow you to adjust fit. For added warmth, it’s compatible with The North Face Retro Denali Jacket and 1996 Retro Nuptse Jacket for a full weatherproof system.
Whether you’re scaling peaks in the alpine or styling streetwear fits for the city, the GTX Mountain Jacket will keep you fully dry, warm, and protected — all while helping you stand out from the crowd.
