WESN Reinvigorates Two Signature EDC Knives with Heroic Styling

At this point, EDC knifemaking brand WESN should need no introduction. The Detroit-headquartered outfit’s Microblade is one of the best keychain knives around (if not the best), and I’ve previously waxed poetic (at length) about its bulldog Allman folding knife.

As if I needed more reason to love those two knives in particular, the brand has taken a page out of the comic book world (pretty literally, in fact) for its next effort, the limited-edition Cell Shaded Collection.

Your friendly neighborhood EDC knives

As mentioned, this new collection includes the brand’s two most iconic models, the Microblade and Allman. While the Microblade is keychain-friendly at 3.75 inches long (2.25 inches closed), the Allman is a full-sized EDC cutting tool at 6.65 inches long (3.8 inches closed).

But what stands out about these knives (at least this go-around) is their scales. Made with WESN’s local friends at Way of Knife, these knives get stunning comic book-inspired handle designs across five distinct colorways.

While the colors themselves — brown, yellow, green, purple and blue — are eye-catching, it’s the clever detailing that really makes them pop. With a combination of thick black outlines and white highlights, these knives look like they were lifted from the pages of a Marvel or DC comic (or Borderlands if you prefer video games).

But here’s the best part: that styling comes without sacrifice. The knives are still built to the same exacting standards as they have always been. They just get the bonus of unique styling.

Superheroic quality

While the Cell Shaded Collection’s unique handle styling helps these knives stand out, the materials and mechanisms will have you coming back to them time and time again.

For instance, both knives have titanium handle scales, which are lightweight and incredibly strong. They also both have sturdy and reliable frame locks to keep them safe and secure in use and flipper deployments.

They differ slightly in their blade materials. The Microblade has hard-working tool-grade D2 steel, whereas the Allman gets lauded S35VN.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, these knives are “extremely limited.” That means they will likely sell out extremely quickly. Second, they’re being made to order — the first batch is expected to ship out in July.

Pricing and availability

WESN’s Cell Shaded Collection knives are set to drop at 11 am EST tomorrow, May 21. That said, only 100 units of the Allman and 200 units of the Microblade will be made, so you’d better stay on top of this release, lest you miss it entirely.
