At their core, EDC knives are about functionality first. They are tools, after all. But we also live in a world where we’re spoiled for choice. Getting a functional and stylish knife is an extremely simple prospect nowadays.

A few years ago, options like We Knife’s forthcoming Epaulette were difficult to come by and highly cost-prohibitive, often priced over $1000. By comparison, this curvy super steel knife is downright affordable.

Dracarys!

With its Persian-style silhouette, reptilian-like handle texture, large thumbhole and curved reverse-tanto blade, it’s not too much of a stretch to say the Epaulette looks draconic.

This unusual style immediately catches the eye, even compared to the brand’s somewhat esoteric catalog. Luckily, these stylistic quirks aren’t solely for looks.

The Epaulette perfectly exemplifies how style and substance can be brilliantly melded into a unified whole.

The curvature of the blade is what allows the knife to have such a long, useful cutting edge. Furthermore, the matching handle is ergonomic and easy to hold.

Even above the pivot, where the blade meets the handle in a concave sweep, is practical. Place your thumb into that space while your fingers wrap around the handle, and you’ll find it grants you extra leverage.

Reptilian fortitude

Like so many of We Knife’s recent releases, the Epaulette showcases some pretty exceptional materials.

That curvy blade with its huge thumb hole and flipper deployments is crafted from Böhler M390 steel — one of the current gold standard super steels.

Furthermore, it’s attached to a titanium handle with, as mentioned, a uniquely textured finish that offers both style and grip. It also boasts an integrated frame lock, ceramic ballbearing pivot and non-reversible pocket clip.

The only non-functional stylistic flourish appears to be the trio of eyelets on either side of the handle. That said, they give the knife some character that might be otherwise lost.

Preorder now

The We Knife Epaulette comes in four slightly differing configurations, although they all boast the same M390 steel and titanium handle scales. Depending on your chosen finish, they range from $325 to $335.

While this is a preorder, the brand clarifies that these knives are expected to start shipping within the next two weeks.
