About seven years ago, We Knife launched an EDC flipper with a fairly inconspicuous name. However, the 702 was one of the brandโ€™s most significant releases, as it was We Knifeโ€™s first-ever integral folder.

Now, the defunct model is mounting a comeback with four new, updated configurations. The We Knife 702xi elevates the original in several ways, including improvements to its materials and mechanisms. Itโ€™s more refined than ever.

Off the handle

To grasp what makes this knife special, you must first understand what an integral knife is. Luckily, the concept is pretty straightforward, even if the name is a little obtuse.

An integral knife has a handle made of a single piece of material instead of multiple pieces sandwiched together with hardware. In the case of the original 702, that material was titanium.

The new 702xi models also use titanium, but some noteworthy differences exist. For starters, the titanium integral handle also gets fat carbon fiber inlays, which helps refine the design.

Furthermore, the original had a frame lock, whereas these new versions have swapped for a more trendy and user-friendly button lock. The originalโ€™s silhouette remains, but these material and mechanical swaps help elevate it even further.

Four of a kind

As mentioned, the new 702xi knives have four distinct configurations. While they all have commonalities, they also (obviously) have differences.

All four have Bรถhler M390 drop-point blades (although theyโ€™re really more like reverse tantos with the steep, angular dropoff toward the tip) and titanium handles with carbon fiber inlays. However, the colorways and finishes of both vary from model to model.

They also all have the same overall size specs: 8.93 inches long with 3.81-inch blades, all weighing 4.21 ounces. They also get flipper deployments and, as mentioned, button locks.

One last important mention: theyโ€™re all limited edition. Each configuration is limited to 150 pieces, for a grand total of just 600 knives. Once theyโ€™re gone, theyโ€™re likely gone for good.

Pricing and availability

All four of We Knifeโ€™s upcoming 702xi knives are limited editions. While theyโ€™re not yet available to preorder, email notification signups are active on the brandโ€™s site.

Pricing for these knives starts at $429 and goes up to $487. Even so, theyโ€™re sure to be pretty popular and will likely sell out. If you want one, I recommend signing up to be notified upon their release.
