Over the last year or so, Vosteed has been one of the most consistent and reliable knifemaking brands. The brand seems to release an interesting new knife every few weeks.

Despite a consistent launch calendar, its latest drop, the Vosteed Gavko Leopard, is pretty special. Alongside a unique apex predator-inspired design, it boasts some seriously high-end materials and trendy mechanisms.

Millions of years in the making

Designed by Mike Gavac (Gavko Knives), This knife’s unique silhouette comes from the natural world. More specifically, it’s based on an ocean-going predator that dates back millions of years.

The large blade, tapered handle and gill-like milling on the handle are all borrowed from leopard sharks. That’s also (obviously) where the knife garners its name.

Fortunately, those design cues are more than just stylistic. The handle’s tapering makes it easier to wrap your fingers around, and the milling pattern offers plenty of grip.

It’s also worth noting that the milling was developed specifically for this knife, making it an even more exclusive element than you might think.

High-end and on-trend

While the Leopard has plenty of style, it’s more than just a looker. This is a genuine high-end offering among the brand’s best.

The Wharncliffe blade is made from Böhler M390 steel, which is probably the trendiest super steel on the market right now (and rightfully so; it’s spectacular). It also has an oversized thumb hole, making deployment extremely simple and user-friendly.

That blade is mated to an extremely tough and remarkably lightweight titanium handle. Furthermore, it has a seriously formidable top-liner lock. Better still, the lock is button-operated, making it more convenient and user-friendly (just like the deployment).

The Leopard proves that Vosteed still has plenty of gas left in the tank. I’m looking forward to seeing what else the brand has in store.
