The Victorinox Swiss Champ is named The Champ for a reason. It’s one of, if not the most versatile and feature-packed, Swiss Army knives ever made by the world-famous multi-tool maker.

Or as admirers and decades-long owners put it, “the Swiss Champ is undefeated” and “a masterpiece of absurdity.

With a staggering 33 functions crammed into its 91 mm frame, it’s the undisputed king of versatility, outside of perhaps its absolutely ludicrous bigger brother, the Champ XXL.

The flagship multi-tool has been on the market for decades, but in recent years, it’s retail price has also jumped dramatically.

But sadly, the flagship multi-tool is also a sober case study in recent inflation trends, which is why the brand’s current “deal” on the multi-tool on Amazon is more accurately described as a rare opportunity to buy the Champ for what it once cost before the cost of consumer goods started to skyrocket.

Here’s what you need to know about the tool and its rocky price history.

The Ultimate Swiss Army Knife?

Yes, the Champ is a little thick, given its massive toolset. However, many owners still say that the multi-tool is highly portable. Others talk about the value of having one stashed away in a camping kit or glove box for emergencies.

What truly elevates the Swiss Champ is its sheer breadth of tools. From dual blades and scissors to pliers, a magnifier, a fish scaler, a corkscrew, wood and metal saws, and even a ballpoint pen and reamer, describing the champ as a miniature toolbox is not an exaggeration.

Active and decades-long owners on Reddit and the EDC forum Bushcraft USA consistently praise the tool’s value and capability, even if not every tool sees use.

Reddit user guruofguru64 shared that the Swiss Champ is “the tank of Victorinox. I take mine to work on the belt chain every day, and it has come in clutch for me many times over the last two years.”

A magnifying glass is one of several novel tools on the Champ that many users find surprisingly helpful. Others also love its integrated pen and pliers.

User PghFlip agreed, stating, “I have had the Swiss Champ in my pocket or kit since the early 90s. The scissors were fantastic, and the pliers too. I used the pen for many things.”

But user Brionic on Bushcraft USA likely deserves the nod as the most eloquent of the Swiss Champ’s fans. “I’ve had mine for thirty-five years. It’s even got my name inscribed on the side. It is a masterpiece of absurdity, which is reason alone enough to own one.”

Despite being a chunky 1.3 in (33 mm) in thickness and weighing in around 6.5 oz, users also say it’s surprisingly still portable.

“I’ve been carrying one every day for years. The usefulness far outweighs the extra tiny bit of size and weight.”

“I’ve been carrying one every day for years. The usefulness far outweighs the extra tiny bit of size and weight,” Reddit user Krustylang shared.

Another member added “I recently got a champ and I don’t understand how people think it’s heavy, it’s both lighter and has more tools than my leathermans.”

User EDCMECH seems to concur. “I have one on my keychain, don’t know what everyone is complaining about.”

Sharp Price Increases

From 2012 to 2022, the champ sold for around $60 and $80. Now, its MSRP is $115.

For nearly a decade, between 2012 and 2022, the Swiss Champ consistently retailed between $60 and $80.

Victorinox now lists the tool’s MSRP at $115, though it routinely sells for $15 more on Amazon.

It’s unclear precisely what’s driven such a massive price jump, which appeared to start in mid-2022 and then kicked into high gear in 2025, but it’s safe to assume that inflation, a strengthened Swiss franc, and supply chain ripples are all part of the equation.

Given this context, the current Amazon deal of ~$88 isn’t just a return to form—it’s the best value this tool has offered in nearly a year. At least based on historical Amazon price tracking, it’s also hard to know when this tool will hit this price again, let alone potentially sell for even less.

But here’s hoping we’re wrong about that.
