Topo Designs is an interesting brand that toes the line between outdoor equipment and everyday carry gear. However you spin it, the brand’s soul is tied directly to the outdoors. Even its most streetwear-worthy offerings are inspired by hiking and camping.

However, its latest release is a real full-circle moment for the brand. The Topo Designs Rover Trail Pack reinterprets one of its most popular offerings for outdoor use.

It might seem odd, but this is an outdoor backpack inspired by an EDC backpack inspired by the outdoors.

Loop hike

As its name suggests, this new bag is a reinterpretation of the Topo Designs Rover Pack, one of the brand’s most popular and best-selling products.

Interestingly, that original pack was inspired by outdoor bags, specifically rucksacks. As such, it features a flip-top closure, compression straps, paracord pull tabs on the zippers and more.

That means that this new version is an outdoor pack inspired by an everyday carry bag inspired by the outdoors. It’s a bit of a full-circle moment, but it works extremely well.

This new version still receives many valuable trail-ready upgrades that help distinguish it from its more pedestrian brethren. Overall, it’s far better suited for use in the great outdoors.

Outdoor DNA

Clearly, the two bags share similar styling cues. So, what sets this one apart?

Some of the most significant upgrades that move it from an EDC pack to an outdoor-friendly one include a molded back panel, contoured straps, side compression straps and load lifters. The bag also sees a moderate boost to its internal storage from 20L up to 22L.

The hideaway waist straps also have sneaky stash pockets, and the water bottle pockets are oversized to accommodate larger containers. The bag also features internal hydration pack compatibility and a weatherproof DWR coating.

To solidify its connection to the great outdoors, this bag also sees its virgin nylon swapped out for recycled fabric, giving it a more sustainable edge.
