Based in Shaanxi, China, Titaner has made a name for itself crafting clever, precisely machined multi-tools, knives and EDC knick-knacks out of, you guessed it, titanium.

Lately, however, its design team has been yearning to step outside those categorical boxes, developing new uses for the durable, lightweight material that most would not dream of.

One big case in point is the Titanium Oven Tray that has raised nearly $200,000 on Kickstarter.

Not far behind, and perhaps a bit more logical, is the Dragon Pearl Titanium Dream Pen, which has raised over $125,000 with more than two weeks to go.

Considering this pen is designed to last 100 years, pledging $119 seems like a no-brainer.

Century proof?

What makes this pen special is the fact that Titaner’s team essentially started not with a sketch but with a question: What is the dream pen?

From that point, they laid out three major goals: the durability to last, yes, 100 years; thoughtful innovation; and being “exactly as you desire.”

They even put a freakin’ rolling bead at the end of the clip to enable it to glide smoothly over your shirt or pants pocket without damaging the fabric.

Everything that followed was driven by those goals, leading to the following highlights.

First off, with an eye on unparalleled longevity, they kissed plastic goodbye and made every core component of the Dragon Pearl Pen out of titanium.

That includes internal titanium springs that are completely rust-proof, meaning this pen can stand up to ocean water and deep-sea pressure. (So yes, it’s a bit more impervious than Vincent Ludwig’s “rare Samurai pen.”)

From the depths of the ocean, the Dream Pen can also extend out beyond Earth’s atmosphere.

Not only is it built to withstand the vacuum, radiation and extreme temperature shifts of space, but also it’s compatible with Fisher Space Pen refills.

They’re not kidding about 100 years either: they offer a century-long warranty.

Joy, not pain

“Thoughtful innovation” may be hard to define, but the Dream Pen certainly possesses it in spades.

That starts with the deployment, highlighted by a buttery-smooth all-metal click mechanism featuring what Titaner calls a “Dual-Wing Trajectory” design.

I could explain what that means, or I could just drop the perfect GIF right here…

No joke, Titaner has a machine that administers a “Million-Time Press Test,” yet another reason they can promise such over-the-top durability.

Perhaps even more importantly, Titaner put a ton of thought into the act of writing, and how to make it as pleasurable and pain-free as possible.

It is for that reason the tip of the pen extends farther than with most pens, giving you a clearer view of what you are doing, helping you write or draw smoothly and accurately.

The pen’s center of gravity is also slightly shifted toward the tip, which Titaner says creates fluid, controlled strokes.

You can write comfortably at 35° to 45° angles (rather than the typical 50° to 60°), which — based on ergonomic testing — means 17% lower muscle activation and ultimately reduced hand fatigue.

But wait, there’s more

Are you starting to see why I called these people mad scientists?

There’s so much more I could talk about, too, including a micro air channel inside the click mechanism to improve ink flow and a dedicated spring holder so you never lose springs when replacing cartridges.

There are also threads with a guided design, meaning you can take apart and reassemble the pen blindfolded.

They even put a freakin’ rolling bead at the end of the pen clip to enable it to glide smoothly over your shirt or pants pocket without damaging the fabric.

But let’s not forget, Titaner’s roots are in EDC. The Dream Pen would not be complete without a tip made of tough M390 steel, which boasts a level of extreme hardness that can break glass in an emergency.

Maybe this is what they really mean when they talk about a (Dragon) Pearl of great value?

Pricing and availability

The Titaner Dragon Pearl Titanium Dream Pen is currently funding on Kickstarter, with a single unit available for ¥16,942 (about $119). Estimated delivery is July 2025.
