Early last month, GP was the first to announce the latest collaboration between The James Brand and Timex: a stunning emerald-dialed edition of the crowd-pleasing Timex x The James Brand Titanium Automatic GMT released in the spring.

While The Chapter 2 is currently available with four treatments, none of them look quite like the one in the capsule collection. That’s thanks to one subtle but important touch linking it to the watch and pen: an emerald accent on the pivot.

Now comes exciting related news: That watch plus The James Brand’s new pen and a special treatment of one of its finest pocket knives are now available as part of an exclusively numbered 55-unit collection. Say hello to The James Brand × Timex Daily Essentials Capsule

Not only is it a great way to start a watch, knife and pen collection in one fell swoop, but also it is the only way to get this particular edition of The Chapter 2 pocket knife.

Distinguishing details

It is worth noting that on its own, The Chapter 2 is a pretty spectacular knife. A stunning 2.9-ounce revamp of The James Brand’s very first product, The Chapter 2 launched earlier this year with a 2.6-inch drop-point blade shaped from American-made S35VN super steel from Crucible Steel Company.

A tip-up pocket clip made of titanium is one signature upgrade of The Chapter 2 over The Chapter.

That blade hinges on sealed ceramic bearings and is held in place by a sturdy frame lock emerging from 6Al-4V-grade titanium handle scales. Rounding out the premium materials is a machined titanium pocket clip with a tip-up orientation (a tweak made in response to fan feedback).

While The Chapter 2 is currently available with four treatments — including a Damasteel blade upgrade option — none of them look quite like the one in the capsule collection. That’s thanks to one subtle but important touch linking it to the watch and pen: an emerald accent on the pivot.

It’s admittedly very IYKYK, but that particular pivot point is incredibly rare.

A similar detail appears atop the pen, which technically makes these two items much more exclusive than the watch itself. (After all, the watch previously saw 750 examples released, some of which are in fact still available.)

Package deal

We’d be remiss not to mention that the watch and pen are not exactly slouching in the quality department.

According to our own in-house watch expert, highlights of the GMT include a 41mm titanium barrel-shaped case, rotating 24-hour bezel, quick-release titanium bracelet and resin strap, AR-coated sapphire crystal, Super-LumiNova lume and sapphire display caseback with The James Brand logo.

While the dial and bezel are more noticeable, it’s the crown that most closely matches the knife and pen accents.

The emerald green dial and bezel, according to Timex chief creative director Giorgio Galli, were inspired by the Atlantic coastline and the deep woods of Nova Scotia.

The Bolen, meanwhile, is The James Brand’s first pen to be twist-retractable — a mechanism that ensures it will never accidentally open or close. Like the watch and the knife, its body is made of titanium, as is its pocket clip. The slim silhouette is optimized for ergonomics, while the stylus is fueled by widely available Parker-style G2 ink refills.

As with the knife, just a bit of emerald makes this edition of the pen stand out from its brethren.

While we can’t exactly argue that springing for this collection is a money-saving maneuver, it is slightly cheaper than buying the three items individually. With the GMT at $749, the least-expensive version of the knife costing $319 and the pen going for $179, you are looking at a total of $1,247, a whopping $52 more than the capsule.

But keep in mind, in that scenario, you’d be getting a knife and pen that are not nearly as rare.

Availability and pricing

The James Brand × Timex Daily Essentials Capsule is available now for $1,299. With only 55 total units being produced, it is not likely to be around for very long.
