In 2014, a completely unknown brand launched an ultra-minimalist folding knife designed to be both simple and iconic. At the time, the brand couldn’t have known the huge impact that knife would have on the EDC world.

Fast-forward to today, and The Chapter is still a core part of The James Brand’s lineup. However, the brand and the knife have both evolved a ton. The latest iteration, The Chapter 2 Rose Damasteel, is a masterclass in refinement.

Kaleidoscope steel

As mentioned, the chief difference between this version of The Chapter 2 and the trio of standard options is the blade steel. Instead of S35VN, this knife comes with DS93X Rose Damasteel.

Unlike other versions of Damasteel, this one doesn’t have a typical wavy look. Instead, it boasts a distinct kaleidoscope-like pattern, some of which resembles blooming flowers.

It’s not just for show, either. Despite its beauty, this steel performs wonderfully and is surprisingly easy to maintain. Yes, it’s an investment, but it will pay for itself in due time.

Return of the mack

While this knife’s Rose Damasteel blade is a show-stealer, it’s far from the only thing to love about it. Like its siblings, its handle scales, spacer and pocket clip are all made from 6AL-4V titanium.

Furthermore, it has a sturdy frame lock and a sealed ceramic ballbearing pivot for smooth, secure operation. The handle is also Cerakote-finished, and the Torx hardware is PVD-coated for extra durability.

All of that should tell you that this knife isn’t just a looker; it’s also capable of deftly completing all the cutting jobs you could ask of it.
