Teva’s New Max-Cushioned Hiking Sandal Puts Hoka on Notice

Backed by 40-plus years of experience, the new Grandview Max stakes it claim as this spring’s open-toed outdoor overlord.

Look, we all know the recent news of Hoka’s first true camp sandal is a big deal. Heck, we covered it ourselves last Thursday.

But if one sandal could one-up another in as clichéd a way as possible, I’m pretty sure Teva’s new Grandview Max Sandal would take one look at the Infini Hike TC and mutter, “hold my beer.”

The sneaky, snaky topographic lines on the straps and sole only add to the Grandview Max Sandal’s visual appeal.
Teva

Because while I will gladly concede that Hoka knows cushioning, Teva’s been in the sandal-crafting game for more than four decades.

I dare say nobody wraps your feet more capably than Teva does. In this case, the brand employs its external patent-pending W Strapping System, which uses three different Velcro tabs to deliver a truly customized fit.

There’s just no substitute for that kind of background, as evidenced by the feature-packed open-toed member of the brand’s Grandview Max hiking family.

Ready for whatever

What makes this sandal stand out? First off, I dare say nobody wraps your feet more capably than Teva does.

In this case, the brand employs its external patent-pending W Strapping System, which uses three different Velcro tabs to deliver a truly customized fit.

The W Strapping System’s name reflects its design, which helps you dial in a personalized fit.

Integrated within the 100% REPREVE recycling polyester webbing is a 100% recycled mesh upper that serves as a protective buffer for the top of your feet.

The sustainability on display there rivals the Hoka’s resole-ability. Because as much as we respect and celebrate that brand’s first resoleable footwear, how many people are actually going to re-sole a pair of sandals?

Dunno about you, but I’d say this LITE-COMF midsole looks about as cushy as you can get.

These materials also boast moisture-wicking properties to keep your feet dry and blister-free, one reason Teva can recommend the sandal not only for backpacking but also multi-day hikes.

The sandal does not have time for the Infini Hike’s two layers of compression-molded EVA foam, but it does offer a no-nonsense LITE-COMF midsole that’s honestly probably not that much different.

Vitale Bramani probably never dreamed his traction-boosting breakthrough would find its way onto a sandal.
Teva

When it comes to performance and safety, it packs a mudguard for lateral protection, an Achilles pad for added support and, just like the Infini Hike, a Vibram MegaGrip outsole for increased traction on technical trails.

Now, if you’re still undecided between the two options, I’ll offer one more small point in Teva’s favor: It’s 10 bucks cheaper. That’s enough cash to buy beers for both you and your Hoka-wearing friend to hold.
