A lot of value can be found in budget-friendly everyday carry knives. But many of them sacrifice styling in favor of practicality. While there’s something to be said for that, it usually means the knives lack character.
Tenable’s Gideon proves that this doesn’t have to be the case. This mythology-inspired knife is highly affordable while still dripping with style not usually found in such an inexpensive cutting tool.

What’s in a name?
The Gideon’s inspiration is like an onion; it has layers. Designed by Dead Sober Design, the knife is named after a beloved canine companion. And that canine companion is named after a mythical dragon.
But it’s not just the name that draws from its inspiration; it’s the knife’s overall styling and material textures. The curvature of its Micarta or G10 handle and blade, alongside its scale-like backspacer jimping, evokes the legendary fire-breathing reptiles.
Furthermore, the texture of the handle scales themselves is, well, almost scaly — another nod to the flying beasts. Interestingly, these stylistic choices also make the handle grippier and the blade more versatile.
