Spyderco’s first product drop of 2025 has been nothing shy of awe-inspiring. It has included gentleman’s knives, classic mechanism reimaginings, ultra-opulent folders and much more.

It’s so significant, in fact, that we’ve had to take our time parsing through it all. You could say we’ve been saving the best knife for last, except they’re all pretty spectacular. Still, there’s something extra special about the supercar-inspired Spyderco Edgerati.

Auto, meet EDC

Although skeletonized knives — cutting tools with material purposefully cut out of them (usually the handle) — have existed for some time, this one has an especially unique design. That’s because it borrows its style from the automotive world, not EDC.

There’s a clue to the knife’s inspiration in its name. Edgerati is a portmanteau — a combination of “edge” (as in the cutting part of a blade) and “Maserati.” The knife’s handle is styled after Maserati’s famous Birdcage, a series of race cars built on a complex cage-like tube frame chassis.

The trellising of the handle allows a ton of material (and, thus, weight) to be cut out without sacrificing its strength or structural integrity. It also has a bit of a bonus: it shows off the mechanisms within, adding another level of intrigue to this unique EDC tool.

Inner strength

As mentioned, although skeletonized, this knife’s unique aluminum handle is not short on strength or durability. Nor is the rest of the knife. Peer into the scales, and you’ll see why.

See that metal bar that stretches along the inside of the knife’s spine? That’s Spyderco’s legendary Compression Lock, one of the most formidable locking mechanisms ever made.

It buts up against the knife’s stout yet robust CPM S30V steel blade. That blade includes the brand’s iconic Round Hole, allowing ambidextrous manual deployment.

The knife measures 8.22 inches overall (with a 3.57-inch blade), typically making for a hefty knife. However, since it’s so skeletonized, this rather large folder weighs only 3.3 ounces. Needless to say, this knife is quite an achievement.
