This Modular Mini Multi-Tool Is a Minimalist Masterpiece

With 138 on-site reviews and an average rating of 4.7 stars, Roxon’s flagship multi-tool, the Flex Companion, is clearly a big hit.

Considering its small size, handy swappable tools and sweet price, that’s not surprising.

Honey, I shrunk the kit

So how much smaller and cheaper is the spinoff? While the $50 original has a closed size of roughly 3.5” x 1” x 1”, the $40 Mini comes in at 3.1” x 0.85 x 0.8. It’s also half the weight, a feathery 2.7 ounces (versus 5.5).

Even so, it sacrifices little beyond the reality that it can only accommodate what Roxon calls “short implements.”

Out of the box, it comes pre-installed with seven essential tools plus one bonus tool, which, like the host of additional short implements Roxon sells, can be easily subbed in, per your preference.

On the opposite end, the non-swappable tools are a fixed bit adapter with a magnetic Phillips bit, a toothpick and tweezers.

This multi-tool also packs a safety switch and pocket clip as well as an Allen key for removing the spindle that holds the swappable tools and switching them out.

Custom-ready Companion

It is very much worth noting that while Roxon has pre-installed some of its most popular implements, the Mini Flex Companion is merely a canvas to which a whole host of alternatives can be added.

At the moment, Roxon offers more than 30 other implements, most priced at $5 or $6, including various hex wrenches, an awl & threader, a fish hook remover & scaler, a flint fire starter, a marlin spike and a serrated blade.

The brand is so committed to the concept that you even have the option of starting from scratch.

You can get the Mini Flex Companion Frame Only (with bit adapter included) for $18 and select whichever implements you like.

Last but not least, the included knife blade conveniently features a small, ridged protrusion that acts like a thumb stud.

It enables convenient one-handed deployment and leaves you with one more choice to make: right-hand blade or left-hand blade.
