One of the Most Important Knives in EDC History Just Got a Stunning Redesign

The intricate handle engravings harken to classic Japanese woodblock prints, namely Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa.

When it comes to heirloom-quality EDC knives, few hold a candle to the Chris Reeve Sebenza. It’s one of the most beloved cutting tools in everyday carry history.

While it’s seen numerous variants over the years, this exclusive new drop might be the most gorgeous version of CRK’s timeless knife ever produced. Don’t believe me? Take a closer look at the Prometheus Design Werx SPD x CRK Sebenza 31 Blue Wave and judge for yourself.

Making waves

This isn’t the first time Prometheus Design Werx’s Special Projects Division has customized the CRK Sebenza 31. There was a previous version with a tanto blade that sported a very similar graphic.

However, this version refines the beloved Kraken Trident Wave graphic, adding blue highlights to the etching that matches the knife’s thumb stud and spacer.

This revision gives more depth to the knife’s already beautiful appearance. It also harkens to traditional Japanese woodblock prints, like the famous Hokusai piece The Great Wave off Kanagawa.

That’s not the only change. This version also sees the tanto blade swapped for a more traditional drop point, taking a bit of aggression out of the design in favor of increased elegance.

Premium properties

While the handle etching and blade shape are different in this version, much of what makes the Sebenza 31 great remains. For instance, the handle is still made from solid 6AL4V titanium and boasts the iconic Reeve Integral Lock.

Furthermore, the blade — with ambidextrous thumb stud deployment — is crafted from MagnaCut steel. This is the more premium of the Sebenza’s two standard options, the other being S45VN (although they’re quite similar performance-wise).

The knife retains its classic offset pocket clip and comes with a paracord lanyard. It’s also available in both standard sizes: large (8.335 inches) and small (6.98 inches).

The fact that the knife keeps so many of its standard features is a good thing, as this is one of the few knives that needs no improvement. It’s wise of PDW SPD to keep the changes mostly stylistic (although the etching does add some extra grip).

Pricing and availability

The Prometheus Design Werx SPD x CRK Sebenza 31 Blue Wave is now up on PDW’s site in large and small versions. Unfortunately, this exclusive drop sold out almost as quickly as it launched.

If you want to snag one the next time they get restocked, you can sign up for notifications on the product pages. But you should expect to pay much more than the standard Sebenza 31’s $425 starting price.
