Moc toe boots come in various shapes and sizes. But the best ones, such as the Red Wing Classic Moc and Clarks Wallabee, share some key characteristics: U-shaped stitching toward the toe, high-quality leather and a vibe that effortlessly splits the difference between casual and formal.

Had Nike not discontinued its Izy boot, it might have found its way into the canon of all-time greats. But here’s to second chances …

The 1990s-era Izy will officially return on December 20 as part of Nike’s outdoor-leaning sub-brand ACG. A comeback was initially teased in 2023 via Nike’s inaugural SNKRS Showcase, which revealed dozens of sneakers destined to debut on the brand’s platform for exclusives and one-offs.

Now, more than a year later, the boot finally finds its way there, with a bevy of photos showing off its handsomely rugged getup.

Easy on, easy off. A single zipper on the vamp replaces laces lie you might find on a traditional chukka.

The silhouette’s defining feature is its moccasin-inspired stitching that starts near the heel and uniquely extends all the way around the boot. This gives the Izy some visual distinction compared to the Wallabee, for example, where the stitching extends up the sides of the vamp toward the eyelets.

Fleece lines the interior of the boot for extra warmth.

In lieu of laces, the Izy opts for a central zipper to help with lockdown, while keeping the boot in the slip-on category. Meanwhile, a fleece lining ensures adequate thermoregulation during the fall and winter months.

A grippy outsole combines with a thick, heavily cushioned midsole. Both contribute to the boot’s technical prowess.

Of course, it belonging to ACG, an acronym that stands for All Conditions Gear, there is some expectation around its range, and rightly so.

Alas, the Izy looks to deliver with its heavily cushioned midsole and lug-laden outsole primed for icy streets and light trails (assuming you don’t mind a little dirt on the suede upper).

Pricing and availability

The Nike ACG Izy is scheduled to release at 10:00 a.m. on December 20. It will be available in two color schemes, khaki with tonal stitching and black with contrast stitching, each retailing for $130.

A dark brown colorway is rumored to follow in the coming months.
