Admittedly, portable power banks are a dime a dozen these days. These pocket-sized batteries — necessary for charging your gadgets while on the road — come in all different shapes and sizes, and pretty much every gadget manufacturer seemingly makes a few.

But I have to admit, I’ve never seen one quite like this.

Nestout’s newest creation is a 5000mAh portable battery specifically designed to handle the rigors of an outdoor adventure. It’s hella rugged, with a hard shell body with a shock-absorbent cushion. It’s also waterproof and dustproof. Its dual ports, one USB-C and one USB-A, are located at the top and guarded by a screw-on cap.

According to the company, it’s a military-grade battery that’s protected against “temperature changes, short-circuits, overcharge, over-discharge, over-voltage, and over-current.”

Its modularity makes it unique

In truth, there are a lot of portable batteries that are extremely rugged. What makes the Nestout’s power bank truly unique is the modular accessories that go with it.

The company makes flashlight and lamp attachments, in the Flash-1 and Lamp-1, respectively. Each plugs into the power banks’s top charging port. There’s no extra cables required.

The Flash-1 is an LED flashlight with brightness settings between 30 and 1,000 lumens. It can be titled 180 degrees, allowing you to angle the flashlight in your chosen direction.

The Lamp-1 is a lamp attachment delivers 360 degrees of brightness, between 10 and 350 lumens. It’s a softer light than the flashlight attachment.

Included in the box with each of these accessories — not the power bank — is a miniature tripod that can be screwed into the bottom of the power bank.

It’s a relatively small portable power bank

As far as power banks go, the Nestout Power Bank 5000mAh is a relatively low-capacity option. Its 5,000mAh is typically enough to charge a smartphone about once over fully.

If you’re looking for higher capacity options, Nestout makes 10,000mAh and 15,000mAh options. And they work with the exact same ecosystem of accessories, too.

As far as power, the Nestout Power Bank 5000mAh is designed to charge your smaller gadgets, such as your smartphone or headphones (as well as its lightning accessories). Neither of its USB-A or USB-C ports are powerful enough to charge a laptop.

Price and availability

The Nestout Power Bank 5000mAh has admittedly been out for a hot second — only I’ve just discovered it. However, it is the newest and smallest of the company’s portable power banks.

You can buy the Nestout Power Bank 5000mAh now. It’s available in five different colors (which is two more than its larger siblings), including beige (shown), mustard, olive green, grey and black.

Each model costs $40, but Nestout is running a small discount their its website right now.
