The phrase “pinks and greens” likely has immediate meaning to some folks and is utterly alien to others. Dating back to a dark coat and light taupe pant that emerged in World War II, the term is slang for the US Army Service Uniform worn in garrison posts and at most public functions where an Army Combat Uniform (aka fatigues) would be considered inappropriate.

The cool thing about the colorized Skeletools is that it’s not just so your multi-tool can match your wallet, sunnies and water bottle, though that is kinda fun. The Cerakote finish adds an element of resistance to abrasion, wear and corrosion, too.

Starting today, however, perhaps we civilians could use it to refer to our EDC, as Leatherman has just launched two new Cerakote colorways of one of its handiest multi-tools, the Skeletool CX. While the official names are Guava and OD Green, the words that kicked off this are equally descriptive.

Fun and functional

With this launch, Leatherman has officially expanded its Skeletool color range to a total of seven different options, plus the original Stainless Steel option, of course.

In a world where we are often paralyzed by the options, the Skeletool keeps things simple by boiling the functionality down to seven tried-and-true essentials: needlenose and regular pliers, hard-wire cutters, wire cutters, blade, carabiner/bottle opener and large bit driver.

As stripped down as it is, the Skeletool still offers the function that made Leatherman what it is today: pliers.

The Skeletool’s blade is no slouch either. It’s a 2.6-incher made of 420HC stainless steel, more than enough mettle for most standard cutting and slicing tasks.

It’s such a winner that Leatherman has carried it over to the even more streamlined Skeletool KB, which unapologetically offers two functions: a knife and a bottle opener. This particular product just got two new Cerakote colorways — Onyx and OD Green — as well.

Speaking of functionality, the cool thing about the colorized Skeletools is that it’s not just so your multi-tool can match your wallet, sunnies and water bottle, though that is kinda fun. As with the Two-Toned Bond multi-tools the brand launched last month, the Cerakote finish adds an element of resistance to abrasion, wear and corrosion, too.

The beauty of this curation is that keeps things quite compact: When folded, the 5-ounce tool measure just 4 inches. That makes it easy to stash in just about any pocket, practically forget about and then deploy anytime you need it. And isn’t that what EDC is all about?

Availability and pricing

The new Leatherman Skeletool CX colorways are available now for $89.95. The new Skeletool KB colorways cost 39.95.
