The Nintendo Wii was first released in 2006, yet it is still one of history’s most enduring video game consoles. This is likely largely due to its unusual approach involving motion controllers that encouraged movement over stagnancy.

Perhaps the most iconic part of that console was its unusual handheld remotes (often accidentally thrown into TVs). Knafs has harked back to those remotes with an unusual EDC tie-in: its Landeriimote Special Edition knives.

A different kind of handheld

Based on Knafs’ Lander knife series, the Landeriimotes have seen their handles completely redesigned to resemble Nintendo’s Wiimote (or Wii Remote). The attention to detail is, in a word, exceptional.

Every detail of the Wii Remote is right where it should be, including the power button, directional pad and LED lights toward the bottom (which typically indicate the player and battery life). Even the handle scale on the opposite side has a properly placed B button.

The handle scale designs would have been enough to make this knife a fun, albeit goofy, tribute, but Knafs took it a step further. The brand even included a removable wrist strap nearly identical to the ones included with the Wii Remotes (a detail that could have saved some of those TVs mentioned above).

It would have been easy for this knife to be just a clever gimmick, but it is thankfully a solid everyday carry cutting tool beyond its novelty.

A Wii bit exceptional

The Landeriimotes are available in two sizes: 6.35 and 7.4 inches. However, despite their size differences, they’re configured identically. Better still, they’re solidly constructed with respectable materials and mechanisms.

For instance, the blades are made from S35VN, an old-standard, reliable knife steel that’s still among the best. Their handles are similarly appointed, boasting G10 constructions with superb grip, durability and lightness.

They also boast deep-carry pocket clips, caged ceramic ballbearing pivots and thumb stud deployments. Their piece de resistance: crossbar locks.

As a couple of nice finishing touches, all the knives are individually numbered, and next to those numbers, their blades have a little etching of a familiar mushroom icon that begs you to shout, “Let’s a-go!”

Even the snootiest of EDC enthusiasts would have to admit that these knives, for all their silliness, are pretty well-built.
