Though incredibly useful, utility knives arenโ€™t always the most enticing tools, least of all in the EDC world. Most are cheap, not particularly interestingly designed and not built in pocket-friendly formats.

Kizerโ€™s Drop Bear Utility Multi-Tool aims to change that. This EDC tool transforms the utility mainstay into a more carry-friendly offering and improves its multifunctionality and user-friendliness.

EDC transformation

This utility tool reimagining is based on Kizerโ€™s Drop Bear EDC knife, the brandโ€™s first-ever crossbar lock cutting tool. Like its predecessor, it retains the crossbar lock, which provides security and fidget-friendliness.

It also retains the originalโ€™s aluminum handle. However, it has its own flair. This one comes with two unique, refined, textured machining patterns that look great and add depth and grip.

It also has a lanyard attachment point at the handleโ€™s base and a reversible pocket clip. It measures 6.7 inches overall, of which 3.96 inches are the handle and the remaining 2.74 inches are the blade and housing.

Despite being a utility knife, this take on the Drop Bear also maintains the originalโ€™s pivot and thumb stud deployment. However, it has other useful features related to its blade housing and additional functions.

User- and travel-friendly

One of this utility knifeโ€™s best features is its blade housing. This is largely due to its user-friendliness and focus on speed and simplicity.

The housing is entirely tool-free, meaning you donโ€™t need additional implements to remove and replace the razor blades. While secure, the mechanism allows users to quickly and easily remove and replace the blade.

That also makes it more travel-friendly, as you can remove the blade โ€” the part prohibited in certain types of travel, like flights โ€” and replace it when you arrive at your destination.

The handle also contains two other hidden tools: a pair of tweezers and a toothpick. These tools are also suitable for travel and help elevate this knifeโ€™s overall usefulness.

Pricing and availability

The Kizer Drop Bear utility knife is already fully funded on Kickstarter โ€” nearly six times over, in fact. However, thereโ€™s still time to back it if you want to participate. Pricing starts at HK$420 (about $54 USD).
