It’s always good to see relative newcomers in the knifemaking industry make some waves, especially when they’re caused by unique, novel knives. Such is the case with Scott Stills, also known as Edgy Knifeworks.

While Stills has been crafting custom knives in his North Carolina workshop for some time, his recent partnership with Kansept is catching some attention.

Most recently, the brand announced the Stills-designed Kansept Tipper, sporting a bizarre blade that offers surprising utility.

Leave it to cleaver

Kansept’s Tipper comes with an S35VN or Damascus steel blade, depending on your chosen configuration. However, the blade’s shape really helps set this knife apart.

Measuring 3.38 inches, that shape is what Stills calls a “modified cleaver,” but we’d go so far as to say it also incorporates elements of tantos and clip-point blades. In doing so, the blade is wholly unique and also incredibly useful.

Regardless of what your average EDC cutting tasks entail, the Tipper can likely handle them with grace and aplomb.

Its large primary edge is great for hard-use cutting tasks, like chopping and carving. However, where the blade turns upward — one of its tanto-like features — it has a secondary edge that’s better for more detail-oriented, everyday tasks, like opening packages.

Furthermore, its clipped point gives it some piercing power. Regardless of what your average EDC cutting tasks entail, the Tipper can likely handle them with grace and aplomb.

Edge fund

Obviously, the Tipper’s blade is a clear highlight. However, it’s far from the only thing that makes this knife carry-worthy. Scoot down below its thumb stud manual deployment, and you’ll find it’s also attached to an impressive handle.

All five configurations feature titanium as the primary handle material. They’re also all anodized — some more spectacularly than others. Either way, they’re as tough as they are lightweight.

Those handles also feature integrated frame locks, beefy offset pocket clips and buttery-smooth ball-bearing pivots. All in all, the knives measure 7.9 inches in length and weigh 4.69 ounces.
