Hoka may have built its brand on heavily cushioned running shoes, however, the company has now dabbled in hiking footwear for the better part of a decade.

One of its early forays into the category, and the first-ever shoe, was a silhouette called the Tor Summit WP that debuted in 2015.

At the time, the design was unique for blending properties of a traditional hiker (waterproofing and a Vibram MegaGrip outsole) with a low-cut upper and one of Hoka’s famously plush and lightweight midsoles.

As such, the Tor Summit appealed to day hikers who wanted some technical chips without the bulk of a full-on hiking boot.

Revived as a retro hiker

While the original Tor Summit was replaced by models like the Kaha and Anacapa, the shoe recently resurfaced as a vintage-inspired silhouette for light trails and city streets. And if not for the present-day midsole, you might think Hoka plucked it right out of the Swiss Alps, circa 1970.

The new Tor Summit features a premium nubuck-leather upper with a rubber mudguard. Zig-zag stitching, Taslan laces and metal eyelets all the way down the front of the boot reinforce its retro vibe.

Of course, this being Hoka, even classically styled shoes get the best in modern cushioning. The Tor Summit carries Hoka’s signature oversized misdole, equipped with a Vibram MegaGrip outsole on the bottom.
