The Hoka Skyward X has so much cushion, it’s basically illegal. That’s not hyperbole.
The shoe’s monstrous 48mm stack height surpasses the 40mm limit set by World Athletics, effectively barring elites from using it in official competition.
No matter: the Skyward X arrived last year as Hoka’s most supple daily trainer to date, providing a plush platform for recreational runners racking up daily miles.
Now the design will get a post-run update in the form of the Skyward Laceless, a new variant that turns the trainer is an active-recovery slip-on that looks even more cushy than the original.

While the Skyward X came with a midsole plate jammed in-between layers of PEBA and EVA foams, the laceless version ditches carbon fiber altogether.
That said, the dual-foam composition remains, with a top layer of PEBA for optimal comfort and bounce.
