This Tiny, Super-Affordable Folder Is Built as Strong as a Knife Three Times Its Size

Interestingly, this minimalist cutting tool doesn’t come from a traditional knifemaking brand, but that works to its benefit.

Keychain EDC knives can be pretty hit or miss. Many sacrifice material quality in favor of a smaller silhouette; others are well-made but too expensive for their size.

But every so often, one comes along that checks most, if not all, of the boxes. Interestingly, this one comes from a brand not known for knifemaking but for crafting custom third-party parts, like handle scales and hardware.

The Flytanium Minim proves the brand’s prowess surpasses mere replacement elements. Honestly, it’s one of the best tiny EDC knives to come out in some time.

Micro machine

As its name suggests, the Minim is positively tiny. It measures just four inches in total, and its blade only makes up 1.5 of those inches.

Despite its stature, however, this knife is shockingly well-built. To paraphrase John Hammond (of Jurassic Park fame), the brand seemingly spared no expense.

Despite its stature, however, this knife is shockingly well-built.

The blade is made from D2 steel. While that’s not particularly crazy, it’s a hard-working material you’d expect to see in a knife two or three times the size of the Minim.

Furthermore, the handle is grade-5 titanium, lending it lightness and incredible strength. The scalpel-shaped blade has a nail nick for easy manual deployment, and the handle has a keychain attachment point built into the tail (with a removable leather lanyard connector and additional key ring).

Maxed-out minimalism

As mentioned, the knife’s blade is scalpel-shaped, giving it a longer cutting edge than its 1.5-inch length would otherwise allow. However, that’s just one pared-down element that works in the Minim’s favor.

For example, the handle is about as minimalist as it gets, bearing no stylistic flair apart from its beveled edges. That minimalism extends to its operation, too.

The knife doesn’t have a traditional lock (honestly, knives this small don’t often support them very well). Instead, it is a slip joint, offering enough tensile strength to keep it secure when cutting and making it open and close quickly and straightforwardly.

Finally, it’s only offered in two colorways: gray and black. That allows for a bit of personalization without sacrificing everything that works well with this shockingly affordable keychain EDC knife.
