We might be living in the golden age of backpacks. Just last week, Peak Design launched its Outdoor line, rocking game-changing adventure-friendly features, while Black Ember introduced the Forge 40 Travel Pack that seems just about perfect for flying.

Even if you’re not into vinyl, the tote is a godsend. That’s because it’s removable, able to become its own separate bag, with myriad uses.

Now comes a bag with an even more specific use case. Meet the Chrome Industries x Engineered Garments Warsaw 30L, a DJ-inspired bag equipped to stash headphones, digital equipment and — in its own separate tote — vinyl records.

Worth noting, the two brands involved in this collaboration are cause for excitement enough. Both were founded in nineties and appear to be going stronger than ever today.

Chrome Industries is the Portland, Oregon-based maker of clever, rugged bike messenger-driven products that truly feel designed by people who ride.

Meanwhile, across the country you’ll find Daiki Suzuki’s Engineered Garments, the utilitarian NYC fashion brand focused on “unique garment construction with attention to detail, with meaning and hidden qualities behind each design.”

Together, they’ve crafted an urban bag that delivers on both functional and aesthetic fronts, and not just for vinyl DJs and other old-school audiophiles. This special-edition Warsaw, younger sibling to the standard Warsaw 30L and the supersized Warsaw 2.0 55L, carries the best features of those bags and more.

That means you not only get PFAS-free premium leather and recycled 1050D nylon materials, bottle-friendly side pockets, modular exterior compression/cargo straps for bulky and/or awkward objects, a large laptop sleeve and a weather-resistant flap and lining.

You also get daisy chain webbing on the front panel for attaching more cargo and the coup de grâce: that internal tote with the perfect width to store the fruits of your vintage record-shopping labors.

But here’s the best part: Even if you’re not into vinyl, the tote is a godsend. That’s because it’s removable, able to become its own separate bag, with myriad uses.

For example, it can in kinda mimic the Black Ember Forge 40’s carry-on capability. Simply stash your inflight essentials in the tote and, when boarding, you can pull it out to keep on hand while the rest of the bag goes into overhead storage.

You can also use the tote to stash, say, wet surf gear, a sweaty cycling kit, dirty gym clothes or any other items you wish to keep independent of anything else you are lugging around town.

Dunno about you, but we can’t wait to see what the golden age of backpacks brings next.
