Case Knives was started out of the back of a wagon in Upstate New York in 1889. As such, the knifemaking brand is practically synonymous with American heritage.

Technically, that makes it older than the Appalachian Trail — another fundamental piece of Americana. So, it makes sense that Case would want to help celebrate the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s 100th anniversary.

And what better way to do it than with the release of this commemorative heirloom EDC knife, the Case Limited Edition A.T. Diamond Case Trapper Knife?

2,197-mile knife

According to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, “the Appalachian National Scenic Trail is the longest hiking-only footpath in the world, measuring 2,197.4 miles.” Stretching between Springer Mountain, Georgia, and Katahdin, Maine, it’s an essential part of the USA’s outdoor history.

This gorgeous knife pays tribute to that iconic hiking path in several ways. For instance, the trapper dual-bladed knife style is historically significant, especially in the USA, as it was initially designed for hunters.

The clip-point blade is a great general-purpose cutting tool, while the spey blade is useful for skinning game while mitigating the risk of puncturing an organ.

Alongside its significant heritage, the knife also sports a unique A.T. “Maine to Georgia” Diamond icon on its handle (and comes in a matching commemorative tin).

Furthermore, 100 percent of the proceeds are to be used to “advance the ATC’s mission to protect, maintain, and advocate for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.”

Heirloom EDC

While the knife’s connection to the Appalachian Trail is noble, everyday carry fans will be happy to know that the materials and craftsmanship are also excellent.

For instance, the 4.13-inch handle scales are made from natural bone, a heritage material directly related to the cutting tool’s history. It also boasts a pair of mirror-polished bolsters.

For the dual blades (which measure 3.27 and 3.25 inches), Case has employed its signature, proprietary Tru-Sharp surgical stainless steel, a tried-and-true material similar to 420HC.

Lastly, the USA-made knife comes with Case’s limited lifetime warranty, another signature of the brand that proves its commitment to the quality and workmanship of its tools.
