Buck Knives and Marvel’s X-Men. Dating back to 1947 and 1963, respectively, both are pretty iconic American institutions that I truly never thought would dovetail.

Yet, it’s impossible for me to gaze at the latest Buck of the Month and not imagine that if the ancient X-Men villain Apocalypse were a knife, this is pretty much what he’d look like.

From the tip of its blade to the butt of its handle, this Buck knife looks like no other the brand makes.

Considering how traditional Buck typically is, this exclusive Buck 112 Slim Pro TRX is a real stunner in multiple ways.

Not only in how far it steps outside the brand’s box, but in some next-level qualities that make it a top-notch folder in its own right.

Purple reign

As the name suggests, this knife is a reinterpretation of a catalog standby, the 112 Slim Pro TRX Knife, which is itself inspired by the 112 Ranger Knife

But while it has the same silhouette and overall design — and is expertly built at Buck’s Post Falls, Idaho factory — the similarities kinda end there.

Because while the original carries an S30V blade and G10 handle scales, this special edition amps things the hell up.

The three-inch clip-point blade is made of the super-est of super steels, MagnaCut, prized for its unmatched combo of edge retention, corrosion resistance and toughness.

The old-school lockback mechanism means one-handed opening, two-handed closing.

It’s also not only BOS heat-treated but, in Buck’s boldest flex, skinned with “Crushed Orchid” Cerakote, a film-thin ceramic-based coating that boosts resistance to abrasion, corrosion and chemicals. (So no, it’s not just for looks.)

That burnished blade is deployed via glorious gold PVD thumbstuds and emerges from a handle that isn’t exactly slumming it.

Made of aluminum, the scales feature indented lines that recall a circuit board (or perhaps an Egyptian tomb) and are treated with Crushed Silver Cerakote, giving them their own protective rizz.

Even with all these flashy modern touches, however, the blade holds steady by retaining a feature that’s about as ancient as En Sabah Nur himself: a lockback mechanism.
