There are some knives in the everyday carry world that bear more weight than their brethren — ones with historical, mechanical and/or design significance. Buck’s 110 Folding Hunter is one such knife, boasting a 60-year history that saw it help usher the concept of folding knives into the public lexicon. And while the base model has largely remained unchanged throughout that history, it has seen numerous variations over the years, especially in the recent past.
Now, in February 2024, this icon is getting another variation in its long and storied lineup. A part of the brand’s Buck of the Month program — one that sees a unique version of one of the brand’s knives produced in limited quantities each month — this novel take on the 110 Folding Hunter is extra special, as it boasts premium upgrades that help elevate the storied folder to even higher heights.
Buck’s 110 Folding Hunter was already legendary, and remains so
Sixty years is a long time for a knife to be in production, and it’s a testament to the overall quality of the 110 Folding Hunter that it is both still around and still highly significant (we even included it on our list of heirloom knives you can still buy). As such, I’m happy to see that the silhouette and size of this knife remain intact in this new, limited-edition version.

And that’s not all — the blade shape, handle ergonomics and even the back lock all remain. Were it a newer knife (or were this variation more experimental overall), I might like to see a change in the blade shape or perhaps a different locking mechanism. But, as this is one of the most historically significant folding knives around, I’m happy to see the overall vibe remaining true to the original.

The significant upgrades help elevate this heirloom blade even higher
The special sauce of this release, so to speak, is in the material swaps. The most obvious, of course, is that handle, which has seen the traditional wood swapped out for something decidedly more modern: marbled carbon fiber. Furthermore, the bolster — usually brass — has been exchanged for one made of silver barehead nickel. The black-on-silver is especially striking and works well for a knife that’s normally silver, gold and brown.
The blade also gets an upgrade from 420HC steel — an older workhorse metal — to what I might call its upscale counterpart: S30V. While it’s not the most premium of steel upgrades, S30V has its own rich history and definitely fits the vibe of this knife. That is to say, it’s upgraded, but not precious. Remember, this is still a knife that’s meant to be used. I also appreciate the extended nail nick, which makes the knife easier to open overall but also further distinguishes it from its siblings.
The February 2024 Buck of the Month 110 Folding Hunter is available now for $184.99, but it won’t be around for long — only 750 examples are ever to be made.
