These Ultralight Modular EDC Packs Look Minimalist, But They Pack a Hell of a Punch

Each bag in the trio functions as a standalone, but it can also be integrated with the other two. And that’s saying nothing of their rock-solid build.

Versatility is a key tenet of everyday carry bags. You want packs that can do as much as possible within the confines of your daily life. For some, that means a single bag will do the trick. For others, needs expand and contract depending on the day, necessitating more variety.

Well, Boundary Supply’s latest X-Pac EDC Bags work just as brilliantly for either discipline — both, even. These bags combine durability, lightness, convenience, organization and (most importantly) modularity into one unified system.

All for one, one for all

The new release is comprised of three packs: the Aux Compartment X-Pac, Stasis Pro X-Pac and Rennen Pro X-Pac. While the three bags clearly share some stylistic similarities — they’re all blacked out — the similarities go much deeper.

All three bags are made with X-Pac fabric exteriors. For the uninitiated, it’s a high-performance sailcloth (developed for boat racing) that boasts nigh-unmatched lightness, durability and waterproofing.

They also have StormGuard YKK zippers to ensure their contents stay safe from any inclement weather. The largest bag, the Rennen, also has external water bottle pockets. And the smallest, the Aux Compartment, comes with a removable sling strap.

While the three bags clearly share some stylistic similarities — they’re all blacked out — the similarities go much deeper.

But what’s perhaps more exciting than their external durabilities is their unified modularity. The Rennen and Stasis can be clipped together to form a larger, multi-compartment pack, and the Aux Compartment functions as an auxiliary internal pouch for either bag.

Furthermore, you can use any combination of the three to achieve your desired result.

Simple on the outside, super on the inside

Clearly, the exteriors of all three bags are quite minimalist. They’re lacking in flourishes, trading them instead for streamlined minimalism. However, the internal compartments are a different story.

Take the Rennen, for instance. This bag offers 20 liters of internal storage across a generous clamshell compartment, a 17-inch laptop sleeve, FidLock magnetic organizers, a hidden RFID passport pouch and a slip pocket (for magazines or other documents).

Similarly, the Stasis — clocking in at 15 liters — has dual external openings that open to reveal easy-access tech pockets, a padded tech sleeve (for a smaller laptop or tablet) and much more.

Finally, the Aux Compartment holds up to three liters of gear across numerous internal pockets and pouches. It’s more than enough for your everyday carry gear and then some.
