In 1945, Böker built its last knife in the USA out of its factory in New Jersey. Now, 80 years later, the knifemaking brand has finally returned to American manufacturing with a brand-new factory in Denver.

The aptly named Böker USA Backcountry is the first knife to roll off that new factory’s production line. The brand could not have opened this new chapter with a more spectacular bushcraft fixed blade.

Perfectly proportioned

Some people might think bigger is better for an outdoor knife. That’s not necessarily true. Sure, you want something that’s capable, but it also needs to be compact enough that it doesn’t bog you down.

As such, the Böker USA Backcountry is ideally sized, at 7.09 inches, of which 3.43 inches make up its blade. That size makes for superb balance between cutting power and precision control.

Furthermore, its 3.66-inch handle is large enough for a solid four-finger grip and is matched with great ergonomics. The knife also benefits from a full-tang blade, which helps boost its overall strength.

Finally, the knife has a lanyard hole on its tail, to which you can easily add some paracord (another survival must-have). It also comes in a sturdy Kydex sheath for easier wear, transport, security and more.

Material magnificence

While the knife’s form is undoubtedly crucial, it wouldn’t matter how balanced it was without materials to back it up. Luckily, the USA Backcountry also has superb construction that matches its design.

The full-tang blade, for instance, is MagnaCut steel. While this is an incredibly trendy EDC knife steel at the moment, it’s actually exceptional for outdoor usage.

This is partly because of its relative balance of strength and durability. However, the material also boasts exceptional corrosion resistance, which is arguably more important in outdoor usage due to the exposure to moisture, mud, dirt and other grime.

That blade is mated to G10 handle scales, which, while exceptionally lightweight, are also durable and resistant to warping and cracking. Plus, their high-visibility orange colorway makes the knife easy to spot should you set it down or otherwise lose track of it.
