Fresh off the recently released $42 Blackjay, Böker continues its affordable EDC knife run with another animal-monikered option.

This time around, the inspiration is of the six-legged variety, and while the $49 Fire Ant’s looks and blade pack plenty of bite, the most notable thing about it might be something entirely different.

The Fire Ant’s 2.9-inch blade is plenty big enough for everyday tasks, yet small enough to max out its legality.

Unlike 99.9% of pocket knives out there, but similar to many Swiss Army Knives, this one includes a pair of tweezers.

Perhaps equally intriguing is the clever, purpose-driven way Böker went about it.

Tweezing the juice

Now, Böker could have easily stuck to the Swiss Army script and inserted a slot for the tweezers into the Fire Ant’s handle.

Instead, the brand figured out how to do so while augmenting one of the knife’s other features, its handy tip-up pocket clip.

Toward that end, the back of the knife’s handle features two virtually identical storage slots.

One accommodates the pocket clip’s hanger, while the other fits the equally sized tweezers.

Should you want the pocket clip on the other side, however, all you need to do is swap them.

This efficiently engineered storage solution is pretty on brand for a German manufacturer, but it’s also a great addition to an already compelling, affordable knife.

After all, even without the tweezers, the Fire Ant delivers a lot for a little.

The 2.9-inch drop-point blade is made of corrosion-resistant 4116, a German blade steel common to kitchen knives that offers a budget-friendly blend of edge retention, rust-resistance and easy sharpening.

The blade is deployed with a rear flipper tab and held in place via a double detent ball mechanism —  two balls inside the liner pressing against the opened blade — enabling one-handed closing with a determined push on the spine.

Rounding out the features, textured polypropylene scales provide a reliable grip and come in the two colors perhaps most associated with fire ants: black and red.
