For as cute as they can be, toddlers aren’t exactly all that sharp. Even the name “toddler” implies unsteadiness and imprecision. So, you could imagine my hesitation when Bestech announced its Toddler EDC knife — its first collaboration with Torbé Custom Knives.

Thankfully, the Bestech Toddler does not live up to its name at all. In fact, it’s quite the opposite, which is a very good thing.

Despite its name, this knife is full-sized, measuring 7.012 inches long.

Precise slicer

While the Toddler isn’t exactly small, measuring 7.012 inches, it does have a fairly short blade. However, even at just 2.2 inches, it packs plenty of cutting power courtesy of its shape.

Technically, it’s a drop point (or perhaps a reverse tanto), denoted by how its spine curves toward its tip about two-thirds of the way up. However, its up-angled cutting edge resembles crafting knives, like the famed X-acto.

This extremely affordable knife is also well-suited to EDC usage.

With its stout length and piercing point, this blade is especially adept at precision cutting tasks — ideal for opening packages. Furthermore, its blade material, Sandvik 14C28N, is both a time-tested classic and extremely budget-friendly.

That means this affordable knife is also well-suited to EDC usage. Sure, it doesn’t have the most trendy or flashy materials, but it’ll get the job done right.

All grown up

Obviously, the Toddler’s 4.29-inch handle comprises the rest of its length. This is also where some of its most vital mechanisms are housed.

That includes its reliable liner lock and ceramic ball-bearing pivot. That buttery-smooth pivot, by the way, pairs beautifully with the blade’s subtle flipper for quick deployment. Of course, it also has a thumb hole if you prefer something more manual.

The knife also has a single-sided tip-up pocket clip (sorry, lefties). Furthermore — one of the most exciting things about the knife — it’s available in six different colorways.

While the handle and blade colors vary, the materials and price remain the same across the configurations.

Interestingly, the Bestech Toddler was launched without much fanfare. It’s already available on the brand’s site in all six colorways. Pricing is set at $63 apiece, down from the $70 MSRP.
