If you carry around a knife as often as I do, it better be sharp. Using a dull knife can be tedious, imprecise and, in certain circumstances, downright dangerous.
However, the average person probably doesn’t have the time or the skill to fiddle with whetstones, complicated multi-stage manual sharpeners or, god forbid, the kind of heavy machinery you might expect to find in a workshop or factory.
Rather, the average EDC enthusiast is probably looking for something quick, easy and pretty inexpensive.
Enter the KitchenIQ 50009 Edge Grip 2-Stage Knife Sharpener. Despite its exhausting name, this ultra-simple, extremely affordable knife sharpener is my go-to. And I can tell you, it’s the best knife sharpener for most EDC enthusiasts, too.

Sharp in seconds
This knife sharpener is about the size of a computer mouse (a little smaller, actually). It has a rubberized bottom (so it won’t scootch about while you use it), and the overall design is remarkably simple; there are just two stages, coarse and fine.
To give your knife a serviceable edge, you simply have to drag the blade through the coarse side of the sharpener a few times — as close as you can from base to tip — and then repeat that process with the fine side. That’s it. In literal seconds, you can have your favorite knife in working order and be on your merry way.
This means you don’t have to spend time worrying about blade angles, whether you’re putting down enough pressure or if your blade strokes are consistent. It takes the guesswork — and the time — out of the equation.
