Fishing is tough work, and tough work requires tough tools. That’s why we were so excited when Benchmade released its Water Line, an angling-friendly collection of folding and fixed-blade knives, in May 2024.

While these knives’ designs and specs were highly promising, there’s always room for improvement — or at least that’s Benchmade’s consensus. The brand just announced that three knives in the Water Line — the Adira, Mini Adira and Intersect — are getting an extremely useful optional upgrade.

Edging ahead

The chief difference between the new and old versions of the Adira, Mini Adira and Intersect can be found on their blade. Like their sibling, the Undercurrent, already had, these knives now feature serrations on the bottom third of their edges.

While this change leaves plenty of plain-edge blade length for normal cutting tasks, it increases the knives’ usefulness in tougher, wetter conditions. The serrations provide a little extra oomph when users need it — like when cutting through particularly tough lines or netting.

It’s a subtle, small alteration, but it can greatly increase the value of these knives in their intended angling applications.

A triumphant trio

The rest of what made this trio of knives so exceptional remains intact, which is a very good thing.

They still feature corrosion-resistant MagnaCut blade steel, and their handles remain crafted from grippy, durable, lightweight, waterproof Grivory. The two folders also retain their Axis locking mechanisms, and their size, shape and weight haven’t changed.

That means the only knife in the collection without a serrated option is the Fishcrafter, which is fine, as it’s a fillet knife and shouldn’t be serrated anyway.

Coming soon

Benchmade’s serrated versions of the Adira, Mini Adira, and Intersect aren’t yet available for purchase or preorder. All three are slated to be released on May 6, 2025, 116 days from now.

When they do, they’ll be priced at $260, $230 and $200, respectively. This should give anglers looking forward to the release ample time to prepare.
