Released last spring, Benchmade’s innovative Narrows quickly established itself as the pocket knife to beat in the premium ultralight space. Creating it involved a complete redesign of the brand’s patented AXIS lock, with a torsion spring replacing liners and omega springs in order to shave weight.

Perhaps most notable is how light the new knife is. The Mini Narrows tips the scales at a positively feathery 1.98 ounces.

The result was a super steel-bladed, titanium-framed beauty that’s 33 percent thinner than the brand’s best-selling Bugout, with two times the break strength and a weight of just 2.4 ounces. The effort did not go unnoticed, as the Narrows was named American-Made Knife of the Year at the industry’s biggest event, Blade Show

How could Benchmade possibly follow that up? With a sequel that’s even more compact and light, of course. Today brings the long-awaited launch of the Benchmade Mini Narrows.

Benchmade Mini Narrows

As fans know, Benchmade has a winning track record of miniaturizing popular pocket knives. Among many others, the brand offers a variety of Mini Bugouts, Mini Osbornes and Mini Griptilians.

The upcoming Mini Narrows follows a familiar formula, carrying a similar design and materials in a smaller silhouette. Toward that end, it also boasts a slim, strong 6Al-4V Titanium frame and a Torsion Spring AXIS lock for smooth, reliable deployment.

Like the Narrows, it’s available in two colorways: gray titanium and black titanium. The former features sapphire blue hardware just like the original, while the latter takes a black-on-black approach.

Size-wise, the Mini Narrows has an overall length of 6.95 inches (versus the original’s 8.02 inches) and a blade length of 2.98 inches (versus 3.43 inches for the Narrows).

The blade is a drop-point just like its predecessor, but the material is a bit different: CPM-20CV Stainless Steel (59-61 HRC) versus M390 Super Premium Stainless Steel (58-61HRC).

Perhaps most notable is how light the new knife is. The Mini Narrows tips the scales at a positively feathery 1.98 ounces. It will also lighten your wallet slightly less, although not so notably: Both colorways will cost $20 less than their big brothers do.

Availability and pricing

The Benchmade Mini Narrows is available now. The MSRP for the gray titanium edition is $560, while the black titanium version is priced slightly higher, $580.
