Benchmade Gave Me an Exclusive Sneak Peek at Its Next Dozen Knives, and They Are Stunning

The beloved brand has big plans for 2025, as you’ll see from this first-hand look at several upcoming releases.

When it comes to premium EDC knives, it’s pretty freakin’ hard to beat Benchmade. Founded by California native and butterfly knife enthusiast Les deAsis in 1979, the brand announced itself in breathtaking and unapologetic fashion.

Its original Bali-Song design by Jody Samson — who went on to make blades for movies such as Conan the Barbarian, The Mask of Zorro and, well, Blade — won Blade Magazine’s Knife of the Year Award.

Nearly half a century later, the now Oregon-based brand continues to manufacture high-end folders and fixed blades that perform just as wonderfully as they look.

Upcoming stunners

Latest evidence of Benchmade’s bona fides? The big box of new knives that landed on Gear Patrol’s doorstep last week.

What follows is an exclusive first-hand look at the next four months of major releases from the brand, presented in order of availability.

Mark your calendars, and keep an eye on GP, as we’ll have more details and images closer to each knife’s expected launch date.

Diving into 2025 with a splash, this colorful collector’s item is limited to 3,500 pieces and loaded with top-notch materials. Highlights include Benchmade’s patented AXIS deployment assistance, premium “purple haze” Fatcarbon handle scales and a CPM-S90V stainless steel drop-point blade with a black DLC “Battlewash” finish.

Mini Freek (565PL-2501)

Every year, Benchmade drops a “SHOT Show Special,” a limited-edition knife only available at the convention itself. For 2025, it’s this sweet Mini Freek, featuring a 3.01-inch CPM-M4 blade with a Cerakote Amethyst finish and the brand’s first use of Ultem, a super-durable polymer appearing here in the transparent Amber handle scales.

Price: $300

Launches: January 21

Bailout (537BK-06)

Thanks to the signature tanto shape, the latest Bailout retains its tough tactical identity while getting more EDC-friendly. Drawing inspiration from the most popular Bugout, it possesses textured, ultralight Ranger Green Grivory handle scales plus a Cerakote-treated, 3.38-inch CPM-S30V blade and an aluminum lanyard pommel (sans glass breaker).

Price: $200

Launches: February 4

Barrage (B581-03 and 581BK-04)

The family of this popular Warren Oborne-designed EDC standby grows with two new treatments. Both feature Richlite handle scales (dubbed Redstone and Blue Canyon), Benchmade’s rapid-release AXIS Assist opening mechanism and a 3.6-inch CPM-S30V stainless steel drop-point blade. The big technical difference is that the Redstone-handled option (581BK-04) adds a durability-boosting Cerakote finish.

Price: $320+

Launches: March 4

Mini Barrage (585BK-04)

Like all Benchmade Minis, the Mini Barrage is just a bit more pocket friendly.

A second new Mini Barrage resembles its Redstone-handled big brother above. It’s just a bit more compact, with a 3.45-inch CPM-S30V stainless steel Cerakote-finished blade. It deploys just as quickly thanks to AXIS Assist. Like its big bro, it also has a Dark Copper split arrow pocket clip.

Price: $320

Launches: March 4

Bugout (535-09)

This many-splendored new Bugout boasts a handle made of Ash Gray aluminum with a Redstone Richlite onlay, gray anodized 6061-T6 aluminum bolster and orange anodized thumb stud and backspacer. It’s just as pocketable as its Bugout brethren — and supremely functional thanks to its 3.24-inch CPM-S90V stainless steel blade.

Price: $400

Launches: March 11

Mini Bedlam (865-02, 865BK-01 and 865SBK)

Among both the cognoscenti and more casual knife lovers, the appeal of the scimitar blade shape endures.

The original Bedlam came to be when, no joke, the King of Jordan requested 20 knives for his security detail. A big hit with knife nerds, the not-exactly-inconspicuous tactical folder returns with three smaller, snakeskin-inspired variants. Each version features a 3.45-inch upswept scimitar-shaped CPM-S90V blade and manual AXIS lock mechanism.

As for differences? The 865-02 (above left) has a marbled carbon fiber handle. The 865BK-01 (center) has a G10 handle and a graphite Cerakote finished blade. The 865SBK (right) has a G10 handle and a graphite Cerakote finished blade with serrations.

Price: $350+

Launches: March 18

Bugout (535SL-13)

The second big Bugout release of 2025 is all about premium. Highlights include its sleek, ultralight Crater Blue anodized aluminum handle that recalls the Burnt Brass edition released last fall, a CPM-S90V stainless steel drop-point blade with a Cerakote Crushed Silver finish and a weight of 2.52 ounces.

Price: $320

Launches: April 15

Mini Bugout (533SL-10)

This new Mini Bugout is not only easy to carry but also easy to hide in the grass.

Available the same day as its big brother above, this new Mini Bugout marks Benchmade’s first use of green anodized aluminum within the Bugout series. The blade is similarly super — 2.82 inches of S90V stainless steel with a Cerakote finish — and the knife itself is super light, just 2 ounces.

Price: $310

Launches: April 15

Editor’s note: While we have yet to get our hands on them, new variants of three Water Collection knives — the Mini Adira, Adira and Intersect — will be available May 6. Additionally, you’ll be able to customize a Barrage beginning May 13. Stay tuned for more details.
