Earlier this year, Bell & Ross, the watch brand known for its aviation-inspired square cases, dropped a skeletonized pilot’s watch with an impressively overdone SuperLuminova application. While a fun and unique project, the over-lumed dial made it pretty difficult to read.
It’s unclear if that timepiece inspired their latest dive watch project, but it’s safe to say that the Bell & Ross BR-03 Diver Lum Outline has taken a wildly different approach. While the first was barely legible in any light, this one was engineered to be as easy to read as possible.

Light up the night
This diver’s dial (and bezel) have a couple of very interesting features. For starters, all the hour markers, hands and bezel markings are done up in Super-LumiNova X2, making them legible in even the darkest lighting conditions.
While that could easily have been an overwhelming amount of lume, the other stylistic choices serve to balance the vibrance. For instance, the hands are merely outlined in lume, helping them to stand out from one another without blocking the markings below.
This minimalist design choice keeps the dial readable, even at a glance, without bogging it down with too many hard-to-discern figures and symbols.
