One of my favorite new brands, Seniq, just launched its first ski and snowboard apparel. Like everything from this awesome for-women by-women outdoor start-up, the Slopestar Collection is bursting with fresh style, cool colors and well-considered design.
Hey, if something that feels better on your face also happens to look rad, I’d call that a win-win, wouldn’t you?
Exhibit A on the latter front is one feature of the brand’s new Powder Puff Down Jacket. It’s seemingly minor and to some eyes may seem purely aesthetic, but for those of us who hit the slopes regularly in frigid conditions, it’s significant.
I am speaking, of course, of that sweet, sweet asymmetrical zipper.

You may be wondering, what’s so great about that? After rocking a 686 jacket with this feature from New Hampshire to Idaho last season, I can tell you. The beauty is that when temps drop and you need to batten down the hatches, you can yank that thing all the way up with no fear of chafing your chin or getting it caught in your beard in the process.
Full disclosure: As a long-time bearded human, I’ve felt the pain of that second scenario more times than I care to recall. (Honestly, just once is enough.) But I believe the utility for the smooth-faced is equally present, considering the fact that a women’s-only brand took care to build it into a jacket.
