Variety is the spice of … knife? OK, sorry, that’s just terrible. But it’s also true. As chronic fidgeters, we love a pocket knife with more than one deployment mechanism, and we imagine you are the same.

The Kami’s blade is a recurve drop-point made of S35VN steel and measuring a not-inconsiderable 3.78 inches. Not only is it gorgeous to behold, but also we imagine it is capable of crushing most everyday cutting and slicing jobs.

That’s just one reason we are stoked about film noir private detective veteran knife maker Dirk Pinkerton‘s impressive-looking recent design for Artisan Cutlery, the Kami.

Dual deployment delight

So what’s the story with this beauty? First off, it’s not Pinkerton’s first rodeo with AC. He has previously teamed with the brand on two different trailing point blades in the past, the Arroyo 2020 and the Banjaraa earlier this year.

The Kami’s blade, meanwhile, has a different shape. It’s a recurve drop-point made of S35VN steel and measuring a not-inconsiderable 3.78 inches. Not only is it gorgeous to behold, but also we imagine it is capable of crushing most everyday cutting and slicing jobs.

There are two different handle options: the more affordable textured OD green micarta with a titanium pocket clip and the higher-end titanium, highlighted by a pocket clip, backspacer and pivot collar all made of iridescent titanium Damascus, aka timascus.

The former looks a bit more ready for the backcountry, while the latter might be more of a desk dog.

Is it us or does this OD green micarta-handled version look just a bit more rugged?

Of course, the real joy here is in the deployment. With the Kami, you’ve got choices, even if you’re left handed. There’s a rear flipper for triggering with your index finger, plus an ambidextrous thumb disk if you’d rather swing that way.

In either case, you can count on that blade holding steady: a steel-capped frame lock bar on the off-side scale ensures it.

Availability and pricing

The Artisan Cutlery Kami is available now in two varieties. The OD green micarta handle version goes for $199.99 and the titanium handle version costs $299.99.
