Though the term “heirloom pocket knife” is a bit amorphous, it does bring certain associations to mind, including but not always “heritage,” “wood” and “simplicity.”
Only with real intent can you press the button to deploy the blade and activate the safety, then reverse the process to bring it back into its handle. Just like with a drill or gun, the odds of these steps all happening by accident are incredibly slim.
Such thought bubbles are part of what makes the knife we are focusing on today so interesting. Because while it does feature wood, Artisan Cutlery’s Holm only launched recently.
And while it is relatively simple to operate, it boasts an intricately engineered safety feature you probably won’t find in the knife your grandfather passes down to you.

Safe and sound
Let’s cut to the chase, so to speak. In addition to a button lock, a fancy feature AC has previously embraced, the Holm also has a safety switch. Now, a button lock is pretty secure on its own. However, there is always a chance that the button can be depressed unintentionally, causing the knife to close (or open) by accident.
Enter the safety switch, an additional component that adds a layer of security. Much like the safety on a hand drill (or a gun), when the safety is depressed, it reinforces the (open or closed) lockage.
