Adidas’s Ultraboost running shoe line has become one of the most popular athletic sneakers in the world since its launch in 2015. The latest addition to the family, the Ultraboost 5, was unveiled in July just a few months ago, and predictably took over the internet for several days. Now, just a few months after being announced, Adidas is already selling select versions of the flagship sneaker for 25% in a variety of great looking colors.

The Difference Between “Caged” and “Uncaged”

Traditionally, Adidas has offered both “caged” and “uncaged” versions of the Ultraboost silhouette to accommodate various runner fit preferences.
For anyone who doesn’t speak running shoes, the term cage refers to the TPU lacing system that partially shrouds the upper of baseline versions of the Ultraboost. Some runners like having this cage feature to lock in a tighter fit. Others hate the weight the feature adds and the pressure it can apply to their feet, preferring the “freer” feel of the uncaged version.
