Cycling and writing have a funny relationship. Look up any pro or experienced cyclist these days and they’ll likely have a blog to vent about anything and everything. Look a little further back in time and you’ll find millions of battered Moleskine notebooks filled with training logs and racing notes. Maybe it’s the hours spent training alone with only our thoughts or the personal anguish that comes after a race not won but cyclists, for as long as we’ve existed, have put pen to paper in an attempt to share these complex and intriguing emotions. The result is a genre of “cycling literature” that contains the standard instructional manuals and training guides but also houses some genuinely compelling prose on a beautiful sport.
