The Nike Free Trainer 5.0 is, as its name suggests, the fifth generation of the footwear company’s ultra-successful Free (no, not that kind of free) line of kicks. Chinese finger traps inspired designers Laura Parrett and Jeff Rasmussen to create the shoe’s unique intertwined upper, which provides flex at rest, but tightens during active moments for enhanced support. (Regardless of inspiration, you’ll still be able to pull your feet out when you’re done wearing them.) The companion Free sole combines a barefoot-like feel for muscle development without forgetting the critical role cushioning plays in the long haul. What your foot gets is a trainer that Nike feels can be “all things to all athletes”, and if the previous line is any indication, all things to all aesthetes, too. Expect the 5.0 to hit select stores globally on March 28.
