Peruse its whimsical array of offerings, and you might be forgiven for thinking Southern California-based Stance doesn’t take socks seriously. But looks can be deceiving, as the brand has spent years fine-tuning its sock construction process for optimal fit, feel and durability. The latest breakthrough? A specialized air jet process that boosts the texture of fiber before blending it with premium yarns to further increase resistance to rips and tears. Coming out the other end is a product they call Infiknit — and a guarantee that socks featuring it will last a lifetime.
At the recent Outdoor Retailer Snow Show, we got a chance to not only check out the socks but also a fancy machine Stance uses to display how much abrasive abuse the socks can take. We’re talking thousands of rounds of rubbing, basically, part of why Stance promises that if any Infiknit sock so much as springs a hole, they’ll send you a new pair.
The socks are available in close to a hundred casual, dress and performance styles, with prices starting as low as $15. Our favorites are the Altitude Crew Adventure Socks shown above, which feature fine merino wool fibers and South American photography by legendary mountaineer, photographer and filmmaker Jimmy Chin, who just happens to swear by them.
