German automotive component manufacturer UBC GmbH has taken time away from developing parts for Porsche, Bugatti and its Formula 1 team clients and plied its hand-made engineering efforts to a pair of carbon fiber commuters known as Coren ($32,000).
The frame was designed by Christian Zanzotti with a goal of portraying visual lightness; it succeeds. By employing aerodynamically shaped, slender tubing with a down-sloped upper, the Coren takes the stance of a finger-light velodrome speedster. While the price is admittedly insanely high, each of these works of art takes forty hours to produce — made in a “clean room”, using high tensile T1000 carbon fiber (which usually sees duty in F1 car monocoques) pressed into milled aluminum molds. Whether you choose yours with brakes or not, both the Fixie and Single Speed variations feature a Gates Carbon Drive belt system and tip the scales at approximately seventeen pounds. Tune, Schmolke, Trickstuff and ENVE contribute the out-sourced high-end accessories to complete each ISPO Award winner. Wunderbar, indeed.
