For better or worse, cycling is known for its clothing. For form-fitting, Lycra-laced duds that are often unflattering and frequently splattered with logos. They’re technical for a reason, but these garments aren’t akin to a down jacket from The North Face, which one might wear as often to head to work as on the expeditions for which it was made. Cycling clothing comes with an unwritten disclaimer: For on-bike use only. But Pas Normal Studios, a cycling apparel maker based in Copenhagen, just released a line of clothing explicitly for when you aren’t pedaling.
The new collection is called Off-Race Casual, and it takes cues from trends in both streetwear and outdoor lifestyle apparel. There’s a three-layer, parka-style jacket, technical trousers, a pullover and pants made of pile fleece, a synthetic insulated jacket and, of course, beanies. Pas Normal geared all toward the chilly, sometimes rainy/sleety/snowy weather of fall and winter with technical fabrics and DWR finishes.
Form factors that make cycling clothing perfect for riding bikes might be lacking, but that’s the point. When Pas Normal threw out on-bike performance necessities, what remains is its signature understated style and a high degree of everyday function. And together, those elements make this collection highly appealing, whether you ride bikes or not.
